In Honor of National Adoption Awareness Month

Posted by Leena Kollar on 18th Nov 2015

November is National Adoption Awareness Month. A month when we honor the many foster and adoptive parents across the country. When we celebrate children from all walks of life who are given a place to call home. This month, we say "thank you" to the thousands of birth mothers who were courageous enough to surrender their babies to a new family. Adoption is a bittersweet choice for all involved, but it's something to celebrate.

Adoption saves lives. It gives every child a chance. It can be a scary and uncertain road for many, but the love that children receive from foster and adoptive families knows no end. For couples who are not able to conceive, adoption can be a life-changing gift. It gives a child a forever home, and it gives the couple a baby to call their own. It takes brave souls to adopt. This month, let us recognize and honor the many sacrifices made by foster families, adoptive parents, birth mothers and everyone who contributes in some way to the adoption community. I encourage you to listen to your heart, and if you feel called to foster or adopt, check the National Foster Care & Adoption Directory for resources and information.

Are you a foster or adoptive parent? Are you a birth mother who chose adoption for your baby? Share your story with us!
